Research

Dr. Eshghi holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from University of Tehran and a PhD in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine. She is the director of Speech Physiology and Neurobiology of Aging and Dementia (SPaN-AD) lab and her research focuses on the integration of multimodal electrophysical, biomechanical, and neuroimaging techniques to 1) better understand the neural, pathophysiological, metabolic, and cerebral hemodynamic mechanisms that cause age-associated changes in speech, language, and cognition; 2) advance procedures for the clinical utilization of speech and behavioral indices in AD diagnosis, characterization, and progress monitoring; and 3) identify intervention techniques to promote cognitive and oromotor functional reserve in older adults and adults at increased risk of developing dementia. She also contributes to other ongoing studies in the BAnD lab including the Human Connectome Aging Project (HCP-A).
