Multispectral Image Analysis of Age-associated Brain Pathology Contributing to Cognitive Decline: The long-term objective of JP’s research is to compare degenerative patterns and distinguish pathological processes leading to cognitive decline and different types of dementia during brain aging. The proposed work will examine the influence of cerebrovascular health on brain tissue and cognition, making use of multispectral magnetic resonance imaging data acquisition and advanced novel image analysis metrics to characterize white matter integrity. These metrics will be developed and applied to model the loss of neural structure and function and to investigate how these changes contribute to specific cognitive decline in older individuals with systemic stroke risk and genetic risk for Alzheimer’s Disease.
